Crossbreed/Hybrid:
The Morkie is a mix between a Maltese and a Yorkshire Terrier.

Morkie Description:
Also known as: Yorktese or Malkie.

Morkie Appearance:
The Morkie's weight:
6-9 pounds average, can be between 3 - 15 pounds

Morkie Grooming/Coat:
Regular brushing and trimming. Morkies are low to non-shedding.

Temperament/Personality:
As a hybrid, the Morkie may exhibit a temperament like either parent, or a combined type. Yorkshire Terriers are from the Toy Group but are terriers nonetheless.

Morkies are determined, investigative and energetic. Maltese are usually more gentle mannered. They are known for being lively, playful and fearless despite their small size.

The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed such as a Morkie is to review the temperaments of the included breeds. The same is true for the other characteristics.

Families/Children:
Generally good with children, but as with many smaller dogs, there should be caution with younger children so the Morkie doesn't get hurt.

Morkie Health:
Please see the Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier for health concerns. But some potential health issues for the Morkie are:
tracheal collapse
cataracts
medial patellar luxation
hydrocephalus
chronic valvular heart disease
kidney failure
glaucoma

Morkie Life Span:
12-15 years

Morkie Litter Size:
2-4 puppies

Morkie Needs:
A happy and healthy family addition and companion such as the Morkie needs to be well-treated, well socialized, receive good mental stimulation, given appropriate exercise, room to run and your life-long affection.
